For my first event with this website live, I ended with a record of 7-3-1. Personally, I had Charles Jourdain winning 29-28, but officially it goes as a draw.
Breakdown of what I'd like to see next:
Main Card:
Holly Holm defeats Irene Aldana and
Germaine de Randamie defeats Julianna Pena
The #1 and #2 ranked women's bantamweight fighters both picked up victories on Saturday night. They have both challenged Amanda Nunes for her bantamweight belt in the last year. To really solidify a number 1 contender at bantamweight, I think Holly Holm vs Germaine de Randamie makes the most sense next. Especially when you consider that in 2017, the inaugural featherweight belt was a fight between these two. A rematch, this time at 135 pounds would really solidify the winner as the #1 contender. The timing would probably work out well since the champ Amanda Nunes is set to defend her featherweight belt against Megan Anderson later this year. Perhaps we could see the Holm vs de Randamie rematch late this year or early next year. With the winner then taking on Amanda Nunes for the bantamweight belt mid year in 2021.
On the other side of this, let's have Pena and Aldana get matched up together.
Co-Main Event:
Carlos Felipe defeated Yorgan De Castro by unanimous decision. Felipe called out Raphael Pessoa in the post fight. I like this fight between recent UFC newcomers.
Kyler Phillips defeats Cameron Else by TKO in round 2.
Else was not the original opponent for Phillips. Usually when there is a short notice replacement, I'd like to see the fighter that withdrew get their chance, as long as it makes sense. In this case, for me, it does. Kyler Phillips vs Danaa Batgerel is the one o make for me.
Dusko Todorovic defeats Dequan Townsend by TKO in round 2.
Todorovic wins his UFC debut after getting a contract on the Contender Series last year. I think a good next bout for him could come against Collin Huckbody, who just earned a contract on the most recent season of the Contender Series. Nassourdine Imavov could also be an interesting opponent as he also picked up a win earlier in the night.
Prelims:
Carlos Condit defeats Court McGee by unanimous decision.
Condit finally gets back in the win column after going winless in his last 5, dating back to 2015. There's lots of interesting matchups for Condit after this one. The one I'd like to see most would be a rematch against Robbie Lawler. That was an amazing fight which had the title on the line at the time, and ended in a very close decision. Many people (myself included) thought Condit had done enough to get that victory. Unfortunately, Lawler is currently matched up with Mike Perry at UFC 255, so that fight might be off the table. Some other possible matchups for Condit that I like are: a rematch welcoming Nick Diaz back to the octagon, Dan Hardy rematch since Hardy has been talking about making a possible return, Tyron Woodley (Condit lost because of an injury in the fight), Nate Diaz, Anthony Pettis, or even Donald Cowboy Cerrone.
Charles Jourdain vs Joshua Culibao ends in a split draw.
I hate leaving unfinished business. I'm a supporter of immediate rematches in the event of a draw. To me, this rematch makes perfect sense.
Nassourdine Imavov defeats Jordan Williams by unanimous decision.
Imavov wins his UFC debut against fellow debuting fighter Jordan Williams. Imavov vs Collin Huckbody or fellow Saturday night winner Dusko Todorovic would be good next steps.
Loma Lookboonmee defeats Jinh Yu Frey by unanimous decision.
Big victory for the fighter from Thailand, that I did not see coming. I wish we had an atomweight division that these women could compete in. I'd like to see Loma against Mallory Martin next. Martin had a big comeback win against Hannah Cifers to earn her first UFC victory.
Fight Pass Prelims:
Casey Kenney defeats Heili Alateng by unanimous decision.
In one of the most brutal fights of the night, Kenney battered Alateng badly to the body, not getting the stoppage only because of the pure toughness from Alateng. Most other fighters would have been stopped I'm sure. Kenney called out Thomas Almeida. Almeida was to fight next weekend against Alejandro Perez, who was forced out due to a positive Covid result. Kenney seemed unhurt and ready to go again, seeing as he jumped over the cage yelling for the matchmakers to give him another fight soon. In this strange time of very short notice fights and quick turn arounds, I love it. Let's match up Kenney and Thomas Almeida as soon as possible.
Luigi Vendramini defeats Jessin Ayari by KO/TKO in the first round.
Vendramini picks up his first UFC victory in quick fashion after 2 years on the side. Vendramini competing next against recent Contender Series contract winner Jordan Leavitt would be a good next one.
